Visual Music Reviews
The case for the visual review.
More than a novelty. There’s a big difference between writing about an album as a whole, trying to grade it as such and mapping out the songs and visually seeing what makes up the sum.
Traditional reviews can call out songs for their pluses or minuses, but at the end they’re trying to justify each song, as well as the overall experience that the group of songs just ushered in.
Aside from everything else, the coolest aspect to visually seeing an album graphed out is realizing that you actually didn’t like most of the songs, even though the album as a whole left a positive impression, or the reverse of that as well. It’s amazing how humans will forget the bad, or good, and focus on the part that affected them most. I bet all your favorite movies have a good ending, right?
